Worthwhile places to visit in Guildford-Part 2

The Guildhall is one of the most historic buildings that one could see during the trip to Guildford. The Guildhall had been built during the 17th century and was used as a courtroom and council chamber. The Guildhall is undoubtedly the reminder of the great history of Guildford. The place contains many rare objects and is very symbolic due to the beautiful clock built in 1683 that stems in front of the building.

Moreover, another place worth seeing is the Guildford Cathedral. Its position on the Stag Hill makes it very remarkable. The building was constructed in the year 1961 and was designed by a man called Edward Maufe. The Guildford Cathedral is well lit at night giving a picturesque view of the place. This ancient building is more beautiful if seen from the inside due to its interior design and accommodations. However, the beauty of the Guildford Cathedral can be admired from distance both at night and during the day. The cathedral can also be hired for special events such as concerts. Also, daily organ recitals are carried out throughout the year by the Guildford cathedral choir and other organisations.

Furthermore, there is the Rural Life Centre. It is a museum that demonstrates the ancient village life that used to take place in Guildford from the year 1750 to 1960. The place is spread over ten acres of land and includes a garden and woodland. The place also contains a chapel and village hall among others. A historical playground as well enhances the beauty of the Rural Life Centre in Guildford. A collection of 100 species of trees from all over the world can even be found there. Some facilities include parking, access for disabled people and toilet facilities for both disabled and normal persons.

Additionally, whilst in Guildford you could have a look at the St Mary’s Church. The church is believed to be the most ancient building of Guildford. Once, the existing building had not been there. Instead it may have been a wooden church built by the Saxon settlers who became Christians during the 7th century. Then around the year 1050, the church may have been rebuilt in stone. The way the building had been designed may well display the characteristics of Saxon building. As centuries passed by, the church witnessed more history and changes to its structures. Apparently, the last change that had been made to the St Mary’s church may have been in the year 1863 by Thomas Goodchild. Nowadays, the place may be opened to the public on specific days and still serves as a means to worship.

Also, you could visit the Warnborough Barns in Guildford. The place is situated between Farnharm and Guildford around 4 miles of Guildford. There you would be able to go back in time to see probably one of the most important medieval barns in South East England. The place is opened to the public nowadays and is as well a solid example demonstrating fine timber building in the past.

As such, Guildford can be considered as one of the most beautiful places to visit in South East England. Once in Guildford, you could be sure to see such wonderful scenes. And if you are a history lover, Guildford could be a real treat for you.
